New Community of Interest event for shared services

On Wednesday 25 April, we were part of an event to launch a new Community of Interest for Government Shared Services. This new community will bring together the people across the various Government departments who have a role to play in delivering services such as HR, Finance and Payroll, so that they can share best practice and learn from each other to progress the shared service agenda.

In his opening speech, Interim Head of Government Shared Services, Matthew Coats offered thanks for the role we played in progressing the shared services agenda for Government. He also emphasised the need for more standardisation of processes across Government to create efficiencies and reduce waste, the need to get the basics right, and the importance of putting mobile first.

As part of the event, we had a stand showcasing some of the innovative projects we’re working on, including giving delegates the opportunity to try out our Virtual Reality programme used in the recruitment of new prison officers to give them an insight into what it's like to be in a prison. This was definitely a crowd-drawer to our stand which was one of the most popular at the event!

If you’re a Twitter user, take a look at the hashtag #govsharedservices to see all the positive soundbites and conversations that this event created, including an excellent quote from Julie Taylor who is Chair of the Design Authority. She said: “Let’s stop making the simple things complex and start making the complex things simple to support user needs and service delivery.”
